FORT GREENE BROWNSTONE – 2018

This project, a gut renovation and conversion from a three-family to a two-family, included rebuilding in brick the existing enclosed two-story wood framed porch at the rear, which allowed for an graceful kitchen / dining room opening onto a large deck in the rear yard. The front parlor was expanded to the stair hall, while preserving the plaster crown molding and ceiling medallions, marble mantles, door and window surrounds and base molding. The stair, banister, and newel posts were restored and reinforced as well, preserving as much of the antebellum Italianate details. The floor above was turned into a primary suite, with a study opening onto the terrace above the kitchen extension. The top floor has an open family room in the center, enhanced buy a trio of skylights. We worked with the Landmarks preservationists to restore the front façade - expanding the front parlor windows down to floor level as they originally were, rebuilding the stoop, and recreating the missing brownstone flowerbox shelves at the sill level.
