GREENWICH VILLAGE COMBO - 2019

Have you ever dreamed that there’s a secret door in your apartment that opens to another room you never new you had? - In this project we seemingly did the impossible and made that dream a reality. Not quite, but we did combine two tiny and dark postwar studio apartments and managed to create a bright and airy three bedroom family home in the heart of Greenwich Village.

The wall separating the two Identical but mirror image alcove studios Was taken down and shifted over to get room to turn the alcove on one side into a proper bedroom, and the rest of that apartment was expanded into an open kitchen/dining/living room. The appliances are paneled in the all white kitchen so despite its proportionally large size for the apartment, it does not overwhelm the space. The living room and alcove of the other side or reapportioned to create a primary suite with a large bath taking space from the former kitchen, and the third bedroom. The two existing bats were updated as well, and the entryway and remainder of the kitchen was reconfigured for storage and a laundry room. New lighting, flooring, and built-ins along the windows hiding the radiators and air-conditioning rounded out our work for this young family.
